No clothing - We just don’t
have space to deal with it yet. You can take it locally to Hope Chest
in Wheeler (368-4461) or places in Tillamook or Seaside. You can also
wait for rummage sales at Fire Mountain School (436-2814), St
Catherines Church (368-7890), Neahkahie H.S. Honor Society (355-2272)
or check with us about upcoming sales.

We charge for the following because
we don’t have space to keep many and they cost us to dump if

cleaners, sinks, toilets, and tubs, among other things.

wood with paint on it from the wood with no paint.
-
We may charge for the following at
$26/cubic yard: wood with paint or finishes on it, materials that are
too contaminated with garbage, wood that contains more nails than wood.
and materials that are of questionable value (e.g.: mushroom board).

Plywood accepted with1/3 sheet minimum

We charge to accept aluminum windows
and windows with broken panes or broken seals, as well as toilets,

Requests from contractors were one of the inspirations for
the creation of the whole CART’M project. Local
“green” builders were frustrated at the usable
materials they saw being wasted, especially when old buildings were
torn down to make room for new beach houses.
In 1996, construction wastes comprised 14.85% of the Tillamook
County’s wastes overall. This number was higher in the north
end of the county as our building rate is 3 times that of the rest of
the county. And this does not take into account the quantities of scrap
wood and metal, cardboard, asphalt shingles and the like we see daily
being burned illegally.
To help address this problem, several builders volunteered to serve on
a Task Force to design the project. Some continue to serve as
volunteers and CART’M Board members.
A $30,000 grant from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality
(Fall, 1998 - Spring, 2000) provided start-up and first year operating
costs for collecting and reselling building materials. The grant paid
for a half-time staff person, storage and display racks for materials,
and outreach to local contractors.
CART’M continues to work with contractors, both individually
and in annual workshops, to sort and bring us still useable building
materials as well as traditional recyclables. Building Deparments for
the City Manzanita and Tillamook County hand out our flyers with
Building Permits to help contractors and do-it-yourselfers connect with
us. The response even from builders outside the immediate community has
been great. An increasing number are even coming to us first for used
or specialized items - oftentimes at the request of an environmentally
concerned client.
